Migraine headache
Symptoms
- one sided
- pulsating or throbbing pain
- worse with activity
- severe pain
- nausea or vomitting
- lights or sounds are bothersome
Causes
The causes are unique to each individual, but common ones include:
- low blood sugar
- changes in sleep
- barometric pressure changes
- menses
- genetics
- certain foods
- stress
Treatment
There are two types of medications for migraine: prevention and rescue medications. Our neurologists will determine whether you need prevention medication, or if rescue medications will suffice. If you have failed or could not tolerate the most common prevention medications, we offer more advanced therapies such as Botox, nerve blocks, and CGRP-inhibitor injections (Aimovig, Ajovy, Emgality)
